Overview Davos, in the canton of Grisons, is the European birthplace of downhill skiing. The first pair of skis was brought here from Norway in 1882 by a former patient at the tuberculosis clinic. In recent years Davos has established itself as one of Europe's best-known conference centres, hosting the annual World Economic Forum.
